What's the closest we've come to not making it?
Most couples talk about plenty of things and still skip the ones that cause the fights later: money habits, how each of you handles being upset, what you expect from family, where you want to live in five years. These questions put those topics on the table while things are calm, so they do not first come up in the middle of an argument.
They are for couples at any stage. Newer couples can use them to check that they want roughly the same things before getting serious. Couples who have been together for years can use them to catch where their plans have quietly drifted apart. Either way, the goal is understanding each other, not winning a point.

- Come back to the deck every few months, since your answers will change as your life does.
Frequently asked questions
What are good relationship questions to ask your partner?
The useful ones are about how you actually live together: how you each handle conflict, what feels like support, how you think about money, what you want your weekends and holidays to look like, and what worries you about the future. Questions with a real answer beat hypotheticals when you want to understand each other.
When should couples ask the serious questions?
Earlier than most people do. Talking about kids, money, and where you want to live before you move in or get engaged saves a lot of pain. That said, it is never too late. Long-married couples benefit just as much, because people change and yesterday's answers may no longer hold.
How do you ask deep questions without starting a fight?
Ask out of curiosity, not to prove something. Avoid questions that are really complaints in disguise, and do not argue with how your partner feels. If you disagree, say so calmly and keep asking why. A card deck helps here, because the question comes from the card instead of from you.
How often should couples check in with each other?
A short check-in once a week and a longer talk every few months works well for many couples. The weekly one covers how things feel right now. The longer one is where these bigger questions fit: plans, expectations, and anything that has been sitting unsaid. Put it on the calendar so it actually happens.
